YepTidal

Privacy Policy

Last updated

YepTidal doesn't ask you to sign up. It uses Google Analytics to count visits and how often the tide calendar, low tide search, and comparison are used. This page explains what information is handled when you visit and who is responsible for it.

Who is responsible

YepTidal is run by Masaaki Morishita, who decides how the information described on this page is used. For questions about it, email hello@yeptidal.com.

Hosting

YepTidal is hosted on Cloudflare. To deliver pages, report pages that fail to load, and protect the site from attacks, Cloudflare processes technical information about each request, such as your IP address, your browser, and the address requested. If Cloudflare needs to check that a visitor isn't a bot, it may set a cookie for that check. See Cloudflare's privacy policy for how it handles this information.

What you enter

The tide calendar, low tide search, and comparison on station pages and the compare page run in your browser. They don't send what you enter or choose (the month, the day, the height, daylight and weekend filters, the dates, and the stations you compare) to a server, and YepTidal doesn't save them. To show the results, your browser downloads the predictions for the stations you look at, so those requests show which stations' data was loaded. The station name search on the home page downloads the list of stations and searches it in your browser. Google Analytics does record when you use the tide calendar, low tide search, comparison, Print, or Copy link, and for which station or state, as described under Visit statistics below.

So you can share them, these pages add your choices to the page's address (the part after the ?). Anyone you share the address with can see them, and your browser may keep the address in its history. When you open or reload an address that holds them, or go from that page to another YepTidal page (as the address of the page you came from), Cloudflare, which hosts the site, receives the full address with the request, as described under Hosting. Google Analytics receives the address without that part.

Visit statistics

YepTidal uses Google Analytics 4, a service from Google, to see which pages are visited and how often the tide calendar, low tide search, and comparison are used. It sets two cookies on this site for up to two years: _ga holds a random identifier for your browser, so that repeat visits can be counted, and _ga_ followed by an ID keeps track of your current visit.

It records information such as the page you visit, the site that linked to it, your approximate location (country, region, and city, worked out from your IP address), your browser and its language, your operating system, device type, and screen size, the time of your visit, whether you scroll to the bottom of a page, and the links you follow to other sites, including their addresses. On a station page, when you switch the month of the tide calendar, when low tide search results appear after you change the search, and when you use the Print button or Copy link, it records which one you used, the station's ID, and its state. On the compare page, when comparison results appear and when you use Copy link, it records which one you used and, if all the stations you compare are in one state, that state, but not which stations they are. It doesn't record the month, the day, the height, the daylight and weekend filters, or the dates you choose, or the address you copied. Google Analytics doesn't log or store IP addresses.

To stop Google Analytics from collecting data in your browser, install the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on. See Google's privacy policy and how Google uses information from sites that use its services for how Google handles this information.
